Liberty Tana Lawn® Fabric Shirley Smith A by Grayson Perry
£27.95 Mtr
In celebration of artist Sir Grayson Perry’s 65th birthday, London’s Wallace Collection has curated an exhibition on Perry’s life and work. The exhibition’s central muse has inspired Perry’s original design for Liberty’s 150th anniversary collection.
“This print is influenced by the style of an outsider artist I have invented for my exhibition Delusions of Grandeur at the Wallace collection. As a homeless teenager in the 1960’s, Shirley Smith was found emaciated and delusional wandering through the rooms of the Wallace Collection. In and out of institutions until she was thirty years old, she became obsessed with the Wallace Collection, and made art about it all her life. This print features a crude version of Hertford house where the collection resides alongside cats, another passion of Shirley’s.” — Grayson Perry
Celebrating 150 years of Liberty, the ‘From the Studio’ collection stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the London design house. Paying homage to the dedicated artisanship that Liberty has been renowned for since the opening of its Regent Street flagship in 1875, this collection explores the creatives who have shaped the story so far. Divided into three distinct narratives — Craftsmanship, Collaboration, and Collectibles — ‘From the Studio’ unveils design sketches and archival studies, shedding light on Liberty’s innovative artistic practice. This collection reveals the journey from inspiration through drawing, painting, and experimenting with digital artwork to the final printed textile.
The second chapter, Collaboration, is created in the spirit that has driven Liberty’s innovation, bridging the gap between past and present. Imagine a conversation between members of today’s design studio and some of the most influential artists and creative directors from Liberty’s history. Invited to learn from and be inspired by former designers, the Collaboration chapter reflects the current design team’s celebration of the techniques and styles of their predecessors.
