Joy, Peace & Love Banner or Wall Hanging Pattern

Construct your very own fabric banner or wall hanging to celebrate these seasonal messages. They may be little words, but they carry a big meaning for us all. The letters can be appliquéd on using different stitches by sewing machine or by hand, altering the feel of the project, and the wall hanging is stretched over a canvas to achieve a more modern look. Display all three words on the banner, choose just one to make a wall hanging of, or make a series of wall hangings featuring all three words; the choice is yours!

This pattern is very well suited for Liberty Tana Lawn® to be used as the background and letter fabrics. Liberty Quilting Cotton is only suitable for the letters due to its narrower 44” (112cm) width.

Required equipment:
Scissors, pins, iron, sewing machine or hand sewing needle, thread, sellotape, standard craft glue stick (such as a Pritt stick), heat erasable pen (such as the Pilot Frixion Gel Pen) or pencil, rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat.
Optional: free motion quilter’s foot, embroidery thread.
If making wall hangings rather than banner: 1 or 3 box/stretched canvases sized 7¾×19½ (20×50cm) & staple gun.

Fabric required:

For banner:
Background Fabric: one 54″ (137cm) wide fabric Fat Quarter.
Appliqué Letter Fabric: 9×22″ (22.9×55.8cm) piece OR one 44″ (112cm) or 54″ (137cm) wide fabric Long Quarter.
Double-Sided Transfer Adhesive (such as Bondaweb): minimum 9×22″ (22.9×55.8cm).

For single wall hanging:
Background Fabric: one 54″ (137cm) wide fabric Fat Quarter.
Appliqué Letter Fabric: 9×11″ (22.9×27.9cm) piece OR one 44″ (112cm) or 54″ (137cm) wide fabric Long Quarter.
Double-Sided Transfer Adhesive (such as Bondaweb): minimum 9×11″ (22.9×27.9cm).
Wadding: 18×27″ (45.7×68.5cm).

For three wall hangings in different fabrics:
Background Fabric: three different 54″ (137cm) wide fabric Fat Quarters.
Appliqué Letter Fabric: three different 9×11″ (22.9×27.9cm) pieces OR three different 44″ (112cm) or 54″ (137cm) wide fabric Long Quarters.
Double-Sided Transfer Adhesive (such as Bondaweb): minimum 9×22″ (22.9×55.8cm).
Wadding: minimum 39¼×44″ (100×112cm).
