Chocolate Box Quilt BOM – Monthly and Quarterly

**THIS SUBSCRIPTION IS NOW CLOSED**

For all delivery, payment, and technical details about this product please see the tabs below.

Finished quilt size 75” x 75” (190cm x 190cm)

Designed for Alice Caroline by Laura Antoinette, this modern, graphic quilt is beautifully vibrant.  Within each block, the decadent “chocolate” sits within its pretty paper case and tempts you to try its flavours and textures.  The two-tone chocolate centre uses colourful Liberty Tana Lawn, surrounded by plain white cotton and Sashiko-style stitching to showcase the patterned fabrics beautifully.  This quilt uses a technique called Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) – see the Cutting and Sewing tab for more detail.

This quilt was inspired by imagining a chocolate box and the beautifully wrapped chocolates inside.  When thinking of a new subscription, Laura and Alice came up with the idea of combining two great loves: quilting and chocolate! And what could match the luxury and quality of Liberty fabric? High quality, sustainable chocolate, of course.  Who wouldn’t love the idea of a monthly delivery of fabric and chocolate?

The finished size of each quilt block is 10” x 10” (25cm x 25cm).  There are 49 full blocks, with 21 different block designs in the whole quilt, and includes approximately 98 different prints from Liberty Classics, Classics 40th and our Alice Caroline exclusive collections.

Every month you will receive a beautiful box containing step-by-step instructions, full sized pattern, Liberty Tana Lawn prints and plain white fabric, to make four (or five in month 8) Foundation Paper Pieced blocks for this stunning quilt. In month 12, you will receive four blocks plus a finishing kit to complete your project.  Each square block joins together with the other blocks at the end to make the finished quilt.

If you live in the UK you will also receive a different bar of “Love Cocoa” high-quality chocolate each month, and you will be sent a delicious bar of this chocolate upon initial sign-up too, just to get you in the mood. This subscription will include nuts, white, milk and dark chocolate.  All chocolate is alcohol free.  If you have a food allergy then this subscription may not be for you – please try our ‘Flower Garden Quilt BOM’ instead.
If you live outside of the UK you will receive a piece of fabric or a gift (to the equivalent value of the chocolate) instead of chocolate.

The chocolate comes wrapped in home compostable ‘plastic’ and cardboard to ensure your fabric is safe and clean.  We love the Love Cocoa company as they have strong ethical foundations including planting a tree for every bar of chocolate sold.  That’s a great reason for making this quilt alone!

Cutting and Sewing FPP

Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) is where the quilt block pattern is printed on a piece of paper.  You machine-sew the fabric onto the paper, tracing the printed lines.  It is perfect for a beginner as the pattern is really easy to follow.  FPP gets perfect points really easily within your patchwork which is much harder to achieve with other techniques.  This makes it a really satisfying quilting method.

Easy to follow instructions, coupled with video tutorials, will mean that making the quilt will be a fun and enjoyable experience.  Once your quilt top is complete, you then hand-quilt the detail of each chocolate case.

To make this project even more beginner-friendly, we are providing larger than necessary pieces of fabric to complete each block. If you are already confident with FPP you may find you have about half of the Tana Lawn remaining every time. We hope you will enjoy adding them to your stash and use them in other sewing projects!

To make this quilt you will need:

Sewing machine, multi-purpose thread, ruler, iron, rotary cutter and cutting mat;

Embroidery thread – we have put together an embroidery Aurifil thread pack to complement this quilt. Find this here.

We have a product listing for a specialist ruler with a handy lip which prevents slippage, adds a ¼” seam onto your pattern pieces and makes cutting really accurate and much easier. Find this here.
