This Florence Lap Quilt is a beautiful celebration of gentle movement made using easy machine sewing. Ten different fabrics shift inwards and outwards from the centre, drawing the eye. Lap quilts are the perfect size to keep on a sofa and snuggle under, or to use as a stunning picnic blanket.
The design may look complicated at first, but there is actually only one simple patchwork block at its heart: the humble Half Square Triangle (HST). HSTs are among the most basic of patchwork blocks, and you will have them mastered in no time at all. The HSTs in this quilt are all on the larger side at 3” (7.6cm) when fully sewn, so construction may feel faster than first thought.
This is a great project for an advancing beginner sewer looking to make their first patchwork quilt. You’ll gain confidence with your HSTs and finish with a quilt that is as practical as it is pretty. A soothing, satisfying make that will bring joy for years to come.
