Hera Manor Quilt Fabric Bundle

£295.00

As featured in Today’s Quilter Magazine issue 104!
Worthy of being draped over four-poster beds and velvet sofas in beautiful English country estates, this Hera Manor Quilt is opulence itself. Made timeless through the use of heritage colours, warm mustard, deep berry, smoky grey and muted sage, this quilt has the bearing of a modern heirloom.

The fabrics featured are a mixture of Liberty Tana Lawnยฎ classics and Liberty Quilting Cotton blenders from Liberty’s extensive fabric catalogue. Select sections of the English Paper Piecing (EPP) have been fussy cut to make the most of the peacock feather motif on the Queen Hera fabric, which inspired the quilts name. The much-loved Hera peacock print is an enduring icon of Liberty Fabrics, having adorned Liberty designs from the mid-1890s to today- very fitting of such a grand quilt. ย
The design radiates from the centre in the form of a traditional medallion quilt, but the illusion of squares within squares is carried across the whole quilt, creating an almost hypnotic effect to draw many an admiring eye.

Alice says “I love Medallion quilts and this quilt started out as one with a central English Paper Pieced motif.ย  As it grew, I wanted to change it and have one of the borders on point – the finished quilt is a mix of strong linear borders and flying geese zig zags.ย  The colourscape took on a life of its’ own with this design, I started with the three Queen Hera peacock feather print colourways and choosing other Liberty Tana Lawnยฎ Fabrics to match. Happily, Liberty’s Snowdrop Spot Quilting Cotton fabrics turned out to be the perfect compliment with their pretty tone-on-tone snowdrop designs in traditional colours. It’s really exciting to see the finished quilt come to life from my initial vision and I love the finished heritage vibe this quilt oozes.”

Best suited to an advanced quilter, the quilt’s construction involves a mixture of careful machine patchwork and EPP by hand. Common patchwork units such as flying geese and half square triangles (HSTs) feature across the quilt, whilst some sections are on the bias and will require starching and more gentle handling.
