John & Betsy Quilt by Judy Newman: Fabric & Equipment Requirements

This is not a pattern. This is a list of requirements designed to go with a pattern which will be released as part of our Sew-Along Festival.  

Fabric requirements:
• 1m cotton fabric for background (We recommend Liberty Plain Tana Lawn® or Liberty Wiltshire Shadow Quilting Cotton. Judy has used a pale pink homespun on her sample but this Liberty Plain Tana Lawn® Baby Pink S will look very similar if you would like to use Liberty.) 
• 80cm Liberty for borders (We recommend Liberty Tana Lawn®. Judy has used a cute low volume print featuring animals, find similar animal prints here)
• Assorted Betsy Liberty fabrics for half square triangle and appliqué blocks, Judy has used up to 12 different colours but a selection of fat 1/16ths and fat 1/8ths will be plenty, depending on how much variety you would like to include. (Find every Liberty Tana Lawn® Betsy fabric in stock here, 12 FQs would be more than enough to achieve a similar look to Judy’s sample)
• 20 cm yellow Liberty for hearts (Find all the yellow Liberty Tana Lawn® in stock here, a LQ would be suitable. Simply add a single FQ to your basket but in the checkout add a note requesting it be cut as a LQ instead. Judy has used Liberty Tana Lawn® Betsy W and Liberty Tana Lawn® Organic Elizabeth B and for her hearts)

Equipment:
• 5/8” hexagon papers
• 1/2” hexagon papers
• Perle 12 thread for quilting
• Needles for appliqué
• Thread for appliqué (We recommend Aurifil or Gütermann threads)
• Rotary Cutter, ruler and mat
• General sewing supplies (We recommend Sewline Glue Pen plus the Glue Pen Refill Pack if you will be glue basting your English paper piecing)

Project made using:
• English paper piecing by hand
• Appliqué by hand
• Patchwork by sewing machine
