PATTERN: Heartbeat Cushion Pattern

Surprise a loved one with this sweet Heartbeat Cushion. With the option of thirty-six different fabrics or just nine fabrics that repeat featured in the main heart, you will have lots of opportunity to make it your own. With a further three fabrics used for the flange and echoing hearts there sure is plenty on this cushion to love and admire!

The construction of this cushion uses simple half square triangles (HSTs) made using two different methods which are quick to master and will serve you well for any future patchwork project you wish to take on. The ‘xoxo’ hugs and kisses stitching details may be completed by hand or machine, with the addition of wadding or without, as you prefer. If you use wadding, why not quilt the cushion for even more detail and uniqueness? Have fun unleashing the full force of your creativity!

Liberty Tana Lawn® or Liberty Quilting Cotton fabric would be perfect for this project. If not Liberty, any other lightweight 100% cotton fabric would also suit.

YOU WILL NEED
Scissors, pins, sewing machine, hand sewing needle, thread, Pilot Frixion Gel Pen (or any other heat-erasable fabric marker, but always test on scrap fabric first according to manufacturer instructions), thread or embroidery thread in multiple colours for stitching details.

Fabric A (background): 1 yard x 44” (91.4cm x 112cm)
Fabric B: 10” x 13½” (25.4cm x 34.3cm)
Fabric C: 7½” x 13½” (19cm x 34.3cm)
Fabric D (flange): 19½” x 6¾” (49.5cm x 17.1cm)
Main heart patchwork: Thirty-six different 2½” (6.4cm) fabric squares OR nine different fabrics cut into four 2½” (6.4cm) squares each.
Cushion pad: 16” (40.6cm) square.
Optional wadding: 17½” x 17½” (44.5cm x 44.5cm), use to add extra body to the cushion front.
