Welcome to the first day of our 12 Days of Handmade Christmas where we’ll be sharing 12 festive handmade Christmas projects until the 12th December. We hope it inspires you to create something lovely this festive season!
We’re kicking things off with this lovely stocking made by Lara. She’s designed this sweet stocking for her daughter inspired by an elf’s slipper! This playful design features a curly toe and a little jingle bell.
“I designed this stocking for my daughter using Liberty Quilting Cotton remnants. It is based on an elf’s slipper with a curly toe and a little bell that jingles (a little too loudly for Santa’s liking!). I didn’t have a pattern, so I just drew the shape I wanted onto some brown paper and divided it into sections. I traced off each section and added a 1/4″ seam allowance to each of the edges and then placed each shape onto my fabric. You can add a plain backing, or do a mirror image of the front if you want it to look the same, both front and back. Sew all the shaped sections together to create your stocking and then sew the front and back, right sides together (don’t forget to insert a hanging loop at his point) and turn out.”

“I padded the last two sections of the toe with a little wadding to help it hold it’s shape and finished it off with a jingle bell. Cut two complete stocking shapes out of lining, omitting the curly toe, sew right sides together. leaving a 2″ gap along the seam. Insert the stocking inside the lining (right sides together) and sew together around the top edge. Turn everything through the gap that you left and tuck the lining inside the stocking, slipstitch the gap closed and press. I finished it off with a fabric bow, but you could add ribbon or a cuff”
Come back tomorrow for day 2 of our 12 Days of Handmade Christmas!
