Quilt SOS Delivery Day | Our Charity Quilt Project

The most heartwarming day in our calendar every year is Quilt SOS delivery day. Quilt SOS is our ongoing community project where our wonderful customers take the time to make beautiful quilts that are donated to families in need. This year, we received an amazing 47 quilts! On Thursday 4th December, we packed up your beautiful handmade quilts and headed to GARAS in Gloucester (Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers) to deliver them in person.

As usual, we couldn’t resist a little quilt parade around the village first and then a photoshoot around Gloucester. The quilts were met with plenty of ‘oohs and aahs’ from passersby (as the quilts deserved!)

At GARAS, we met with three of their incredible resettlement officers – Debbie, Sophia and Carys – who work closely with families arriving in Gloucestershire. They were so thankful for the amazing quilts and the amount of work and care that had gone into them. Two of the quilts have already gone to an Afghan family who moved into their home in Gloucestershire last week. This is their first winter the family has experienced in the UK so they will be well loved. This is true for many of the families, which makes warm quilts even more essential. Debbie says “We will be distributing the quilts to each family who has moved to the area in recent months, and those soon to arrive. Several of our clients make their own clothes and are very skilled, so they will particularly appreciate the work that has gone into these quilts.”

It was lovely discovering that many of GARAS clients are skilled seamstresses who make their own clothes and with that in mind we would like to put out a gentle call: If you have an old or unused sewing machine that you’d be happy to donate, we would love to help pass this on to GARAS. It could become an invaluable tool for someone starting anew. If you think you can help, please get in touch with us [email protected].

We can’t thank our wonderful community enough for the generosity that makes this project possible year after year 💕
