Dawn has made this beautiful baby quilt using Liberty Theo in a lovely mix of colourways. This simple crib size patchwork quilt uses 5-inch Tana Lawn squares with synthetic wadding for a soft, washable finish — making it the perfect handmade gift for a newborn.

Who did you make this gorgeous quilt for?
“I made the quilt for my nephew’s baby (on my husband’s side of the family). My husband and I have recently become Great Uncle and Great Aunt to baby Sophia. She was born 2 months premature so rather caught me on the hop with my quilt making!”

What inspired your fabric choice?
“As she was unexpected early I decided to try and use fabric from my existing stash – and had this sweet Theo in a variety of colour ways. I only had fairly small pieces so a 5″ square patchwork was the order of the day!”

Was it an easy make and did you use a pattern?
“It was an easy make and no pattern was required. I wanted to make it using machine sewing to make it as robust as possible for the washing machine – as I felt it might be in the laundry quite a lot with a new baby!”

What wadding do you like to use?
“I used a synthetic wadding as I find this works really well with the fine Tana Lawn – giving it a nice puffy feel. It also dries quickly – see th laundry note above! ????”

Thank you Dawn for sharing your Beautiful Baby Quilt with us. I’m sure it will be well used (and washed..) over the years.
