Madeline Bonner is a UK-based teacher and maker with a passion for colour, pattern, and English Paper Piecing. A member of the Modern Quilters Guild, she loves Liberty’s bold prints and enjoys creating small-scale projects, often on the go.
Let’s dive into the world of Madeline…
“My favourite Liberty fabrics are always the conversational designs. I especially love Queue for the Zoo and the collaborations they have done with artists such as Grayson Perry. My favourite botanical print is Mauvey. I love how Liberty blend traditional designs with bold modern prints.”
“I love to sew small scale projects such as bags, cushion covers and often include Liberty Lawn in my hand embroidery projects. English paper piecing is my go to technique and Liberty Lawn works so well. I don’t have a dedicated sewing space and generally work on the move. I especially love hand sewing for this reason.”
“I am inspired by the sewing community and the diverse range of designs in the LIberty archive. My background is in surface pattern design and I am rather obsessed with pattern. My perfect afternoon would be a visit to the haberdashery in the Liberty store”
“The best advice I can give to anyone starting out with sewing is to sew what you love. There is an amazing sewing community out there and if you have a local Modern Quilters Guild that is a great place to start. I started my Liberty Fabric collection over ten years ago and generally select fat quarters as I love lots of variety to choose from when I begin a new project. I also love sewing books. They are a feast for the eyes! One of my favourite is Quilting with Liberty by Jenni Smith. It is a treasure trove of gorgeous quilts.”
