Dreamy Frill Detail Blouse in Liberty’s Retold Collection

Lucy has made this lovely top from Liberty’s 150th Anniversary Collection, Retold. This collection is full of bold prints, but Walter’s Meadow quietly caught Lucy’s eye with its tiny daisy details. Lucy tells us all about her make..

“Here in the studio it’s always so exciting when a new fabric collection arrives! Liberty’s 150th anniversary SS25 Retold collection is full of bold, beautiful, colour filled florals and I must admit I spent a lot of time drooling over these, but there was one fabric I kept spotting, quietly drawing my eye with its tiny daisy details and gentle mix of green and ochre….Walter’s Meadow A.

“I already had a pattern in mind for a loose, full sleeved blouse with a frilled neckline. I used McCall’s M8042. It has raglan sleeves, which are always nice and forgiving in terms of shoulder and armhole fitting! The frilled neckline is extremely simple on this pattern as it is formed by creating a narrow casing around the finished neck hole and then inserting a drawstring through it, which is then pulled tight to create as much or as little of a frill as you like.”

“I chose to put button fastenings down the front of my blouse.  This wasn’t as difficult as it may sound: instead of cutting out the front pattern piece as one whole piece, I cut it in half straight down the front.  I then made button plackets for each side by simply adding a strip of fabric (with interfacing attached) along each centre front edge. I then folded it in half and topstitched it in place along the seam. It was then ready for the buttons and buttonholes. I used some buttons I had salvaged from an old worn out shirt of my husband’s for this.”

“I’m really happy with how this blouse turned out. It was quite a quick make and I was able to start wearing it right away, which is always very satisfying!”
