Finished Quilt Size:  78” height x 69” width (198cm x 175cm)

Floral Mosaic is a beautiful heirloom quilt made using the technique of English Paper Piecing (EPP).  This lovely hand-sewing patchwork technique takes us back to times past when patchwork was always carried out by hand, using paper shapes wrapped in fabric.  Today, this technique remains a wonderful, slow sewing method and you’ll use it to make this heirloom quilt.

You will immediately receive 12 beautiful boxes containing a specially curated selection of Liberty Tana Lawn® fabrics, EPP paper pre-cut shapes and full instructions to make 2-3 blocks per box.  At the end of the year, the blocks from each month tessellate together to form your beautiful handmade quilt.

Floral Mosaic is a timeless quilt which uses Liberty classics, seasonal designs, Alice Caroline Exclusive prints and plain white Tana Lawn®.  In the whole quilt you will receive approximately 158 unique Liberty Tana Lawn® prints.  Tana Lawn® is perfect for EPP (English Paper Piecing) due to the high thread count of the fabric which makes it lovely to work with by hand.

Alice talks about the design inspiration of Floral Mosaic:   “When I visited Rome, I was inspired by the floral mosaics in the Vatican.  I used my love of mosaics from across the world and the clever mathematical tessellation of geometric shapes to design this gorgeous new quilt.  This quilt combines two of my great loves – travelling and spending time in my beautiful English garden (there’s nowhere I’d rather be in June and July) so it’s the perfect combination.

Many of the prints that Liberty design, and we know and love, are based on garden or hedgerow plants.  The high thread count of Liberty Tana Lawn® enables the intricate detail of their delicate florals which is unique in Liberty fabrics. I love the huge array of colours that are available in Liberty prints too and have really enjoyed putting the colour combinations together for this quilt – 158 unique Liberty prints in total.  I’ve used lots of the new classics, which makes it a unique design, as well as my exclusives and a few seasonal 2023 prints.

The design process is so important to me.  When designing each block, I start with my favourite Liberty print and then I pick out the colours from that print and find other fabrics that complement these colours.  The placement of prints depends on the size of the pattern and balance of designs around it.  There has to be enough contrast between each print as it is placed in the block to get the perfect design.  It’s a really fun process and I love sharing my designs with sewers.”

*Please note: This version of the quilt was originally run as a Block of the Month (BOM) subscription. The subscription is over but by purchasing this full quilt kit you will be able to make the Floral Mosaic Quilt for yourself. If you missed out on joining the BOM at the time then this is your chance!

This product is not available for any discounts. We have added a separate shipping charge to this product. Shipping will be fully insured and is heavily discounted.

Fussy-cutting

The amounts of fabric supplied are sufficient for cutting the patchwork shapes according to the supplied cutting layouts. If you want to fussy-cut other prints yourself, for instance to locate a particular motif within the design, you may need to buy extra fabric to do so. We would recommend you make a separate order for an extra fat quarter of any print which you decide to fussy-cut.
