Liberty Tana Lawn® Kitten Love Cushion Kit

Bring extra cuteness to your bedroom, sofa or picnic setting with this adorable Kitten Love cushion. Featuring a happy Liberty kitty, inside a heart frame, wearing a blooming flower crown, this cushion is guaranteed to be cherished by any cat lover.

The construction of this cushion combines a mixture of techniques – raw edge appliqué, embroidery and quilting. Raw edge appliqué is a bit like collaging with fabric and whilst easy to do, it does require some concentration and a slower speed setting on your machine, if possible. Embroidery is a timeless method of embellishing by hand which encourages mindfulness through slow stitching.The embroidery includes common stitches such as satin stitch, French knots, chain stitch and lazy daisy stitch among others which will form the flower crown and add details to the cat’s face. Lastly, quilted hearts to frame and cute paw print detail increase the handmade look of the cushion as well as adding some fun texture.

This project is well suited for an advancing beginner sewer and an intermediate embroiderer.

IN THIS KIT

Coloured Liberty Quilting Cotton fabric for the appliqué and heart frame. Quality ivory quilting cotton for the background and cushion back.
Nine DMC Mouliné Spécial cotton threads for the embroidery.

YOU WILL NEED

Scissors, pins, sewing machine, iron and ironing board, rotary cutter and cutting mat, ruler, embroidery needle (size 8-10), Pilot Frixion Gel Pen (or any other heat-erasable fabric marker, but always test on scrap fabric first according to manufacturer instructions), thread to match the fabric being appliquéd, embroidery hoop (10” (25.4cm) size recommended).

Optional: free-motion quilter’s foot, hand quilting needle

Cushion pad: 16” (40.6cm) square
Iron-on transfer adhesive (such as Bondaweb): 9” x 12” (22.9cm x 30.5cm)
Optional wadding: 171⁄2” x 171⁄2” (44.4cm x 44.4cm), use to add extra body to the cushion front.
