The construction combines a bit of fabric collaging, making a (small!) quilt sandwich and then quilting all-over to hold the collage together. That’s right folks, it is, unbelievably, an even more amazingly simple raw edge appliqué technique. Quilters rejoice!

For our samples we have used Liberty Tana Lawn® Capel AB for the berries, Capel Q for the leaves and Wiltshire Bud C for the pudding, as well as Liberty Quilting Cotton Wiltshire Shadow Cream for the icing. If not Liberty, any other light to medium weight 100% cotton fabric would also suit.

YOU WILL NEED
Fabric scissors, a4 printer, paper scissors, heat erasable fabric pen (such as the Pilot Frixion Gel Pen), pins, iron, sewing machine, hand sewing needle and thread (red & neutral). Optional: free-motion machine foot.

White icing fabric: 1¾” x 8” (4.4cm x 20.3cm)
Green leaf fabric: two 1½” x 8” (3.8cm x 20.3cm) pieces
Red berry fabric: ¾” x 8” (1.9cm x 20.3cm)
Brown pudding fabric: 3” x 8” (7.6cm x 20.3cm)
Backing fabric: 4” x 9” (10.2cm x 22.9cm)
Wadding: 4” x 9” (10.2cm x 22.9cm)
Double-sided fabric adhesive (such as Bondaweb): 4” x 8” (10.2cm x 20.3cm)
Ribbon: three 5” (12.7cm) lengths
