Discover this Liberty fabric butterfly cushion featuring raw edge appliqué — a handmade cushion sewing project using exclusive Alice Caroline prints, with the full pattern in Pretty Patches Magazine.

This beautiful Liberty butterfly cushion is a really lovely project – the raw edge appliqué looks a bit tricky, but once you have had a practice, it really free’s up the possibilities for sewing. This is such a pretty cushion – the fabrics are from my exclusive collection. I’ve designed the fabrics in collaboration with the design team at Liberty which was lots of fun. Check out my exclusive Alice Caroline Liberty collection here.

Some detail of the raw edge appliqué – Dawn has used a blanket stitch which looks super neat. You could also use a zig zag stitch. You will need an open / freehand embroidery foot for your sewing machine or you could sew a blanket stitch by hand.

Dawn edged this beautiful Liberty cushion with one of my exclusive fabrics which makes such a pretty border. You could border the cushion with any of the fabrics used in the butterflies, but Dawn has used Betsy Anne X Pink and Blue.
This really pretty project has made it into the Pretty Patches Magazine and even made the front cover. I’m not surprised as it’s such a lovely cushion and a nice easy project that could be finished in a weekend.
Here it is in the magazine.

I am really excited about my exclusive range of Liberty fabrics making it into the magazine. It’s such an honour when a magazine thinks your projects are good enough to publish! I hope you manage to find the time to make this pretty cushion.
Happy sewing – love Alice x
