Beautiful Liberty Trousers

I’ve recently bought some dress making patterns from Sew Over It and wanted to give the ‘Ultimate Trousers‘ a try.  It looked like a really simple pattern with easy instructions.  I was drawn to this stunning print too which is called ‘Painted Journey‘.

I lOVE this print..it’s from a hand painted design, inspired by Marianne North’s lush paintings of global flora. Marianne was an intrepid explorer, visiting many countries such as Brazil, California, Java, Borneo, Japan and Ceylon (as it was know then).  This was in the 1800’s at a time when people rarely travelled, let alone women. She defied convention and also challenged the traditional painting composition of the time, preferring to paint plants in their natural settings rather than as individual specimens. Her paintings are on permanent display at Kew Gardens.

The Beautiful Liberty Trousers Pattern:

Pattern sizing: I am between 10/12, I cut out a 10 and made them with  the required 5/8th seam allowance. They were too small so I unpicked and remade with the central seam at 1/4” and the top side seams at 1/4” below know 5/8 but that’s to suit my shape.  It was SUPER easy to do.  Normally I’m not that great at adjusting to fit, but this was such an easy pattern and I’m really pleased with the results.  I’ve already made another pair and they get loads of comments!

They are such comfortable trousers to wear.  I’ve interlined the trousers as I like to have a little more structure.  To do this, I cut out another set of pattern pieces and sew them as one piece.

Anna made some wide leg Beautiful Liberty Trousers using the other colourway of ‘Painted Journey’.  We both fell in love with the fabric as soon as it arrived.
