Liberty Baby Dress — Adorable Infant Dress in Tana Lawn

Lucy from the studio has made this adorable Liberty baby dress as a gift for her niece — a sweet infant dress sewn in the gorgeous Sleeping Beauty print from the Liberty SS22 Tana Lawn collection, perfect as a handmade newborn sewing present.

“I chose to use Sleeping Beauty C from the new Wonderful Fantastical collection (I mean the name alone was a good enough reason to choose this one!). I absolutely love the bright, cheerful colours in this fabric and the way they pick out all the minute flowers in the design. I then chose to use Ed D to make the accent frills as this shade of yellow matched exactly with the yellow hints in the main fabric, and it is also a very small print which I think works well in terms of scale.”

“I used Simplicity pattern S8893. I eventually chose to make the dress rather than the pinafore simply because our Summer weather here in the UK often still requires layers and I felt this would be more of an option under the dress. I made it a little shorter than the dress pattern though, in order to show off those fab frilly pants!! I also added the shoulder frills from the pinafore and made a much narrower version of the hem band.

These alterations were all fairly straightforward and the pattern was clear and versatile. The trickiest part of this make was the sheer tininess of the pieces! As I said it’s been a while since I’ve made anything this small.”

“I am really pleased with the way this little outfit turned out and I have now packaged it up and sent it as a gift to my cousin. Little Imogen will soon be taking her very first steps into the sunshine and, with all the worries and stresses we carry with us in our adult lives, I feel that this is a really important reminder to us all that the world is still a beautiful place, filled with wonderful adventures!”
