It’s time for the second of the ‘Lewes Sewing Bee’ projects. Sue Shoesmith has made this beautiful Liberty Dress in my exclusive Mitsi Mustard. It’s got such a lovely vintage feel from the combination of the fabric and pattern. I love this dress so much. The neck line is lovely and has a vintage vibe.
The Fabric:
Exclusive Mustard and Grey Mitsi. I absolutely love Mitsi as it reminds me of Sakura cherry blossoms in Japan. I really love travelling and Japan holds a special place in my heart. Also, at the same time as I was designing the new exclusive collection, I noticed the April blackthorn and hawthorn blossom here in England. It looks so beautiful in the hedgerows and so, I knew I wanted to include beautiful blossom within the collection.
I asked Sue about the sewing project and why she chose the pattern and fabric.
“ I wear a lot of mustard yellow so as soon as I saw this new range of Alice Caroline Exclusives I knew I wanted to make a summer dress using the Mustard Mitsi. I think the fabric in this colour way has quite a vintage feel so I looked for a pattern that gave me that impression whilst also suited my body shape. I chose a pattern that I’d saved from a sewing magazine and as I wanted a cool dress I decided not to line it.
I’m very happy with dress. I particularly like the mixture of a fitted bodice and fuller skirt but on reflection I would line the bodice if I made this pattern again. I’m looking forward to wearing it when I’m on holiday in Crete in October.”
The dress is being modelled by Hannah (who joined us on work experience for this week) and Laura.
Thank you so much Sue for making this dress for some sewing inspiration using the Alice Caroline Exclusives. Have a wonderful time on your holiday!
