Liberty Irma Tote Bag

We have another Lewes Sewing Bee make for you today, this lovely bag was made by the lovely Veronica.

“When I first saw the new exclusive Irma, I knew it would be perfect for a summer project. The pretty pinks, soft peach and the understated grey and green tones are so gentle and dreamy. It is an inspired colourway. I decided to make a tote bag with the Irma, big enough to hold all the things you might need for a day out in the countryside”

“I used bosal to give it stability, covering the bosal wit the fabric and quilting it by machine before constructing the actual bag. I didn’t use a pattern but made it up from some other bags I use over and over. I think we all have favourite bags that sit just right on the shoulder and against the body. I added one large dividing pocket inside the bag and two outside pockets for easy storage. I trimmed on with ruffle to add to the feminine feel of the whole project. I bought the sides of the bag in slightly by adding two strips from front to back. This pinches in the sides giving shape and they were finished off with four Liberty imprinted cream buttons.”

“The bag is lined with pink Capel, in a slightly thicker cotton that I bought from Alice Caroline in a remnant sale some time ago. It feels lovely and as it’s a little thicker than the Tana Lawn, it feels perfect for the lining. I also used the Capel to trim the edges of the bag, the pockets and give comfort on the shoulder and they were also machine quilted before adding.”

“Thank you Alice Caroline for this beautiful fabric. The Irma print is idyllic and this colourway is gorgeous. I think I will be using my bag for many summers to come.”
