Hils from the studio has been busy making this lovely Liberty Christmas Project. Her family have decided that this year they would all make their presents to one another. She really wanted to make something from the Alice Caroline exclusive Strawberry Thief canvas and thought of an oven glove. Great idea!
What you will need:
Strawberry Thief canvas – see pattern detail for quantity plus fabric for piping (optional)
Heat resistant wadding
A sewing machine or thread
An oven glove pattern – Hils used a free pattern from Women’s Weekly
There are plenty of oven glove patterns available but Hils chose this one as she said it looks relatively straight forward. You can use the pattern (link above) to make the oven glove. Tip: Hils used a plate to create the round edges of the oven glove.
Using a rotary cutter, ruler and mat helps with the ease of cutting.
All of the pattern pieces in the Strawberry Thief Canvas and Capel Mint. Hils made the Capel oven glove lining slightly longer in length around the curved top edge. This formed a self binding of the mitten part of the glove.
Hils put a binding onto the mitten part in lovely Capel fabric which works beautifully with the Strawberry Thief.
Hils also made a trivet with the leftover fabric which is a really handy addition.
I am sure that whoever receives this from Hils this Christmas will be delighted with it. A practical and yet beautiful present.
Happy Christmas sewing!
