Party Rings Quilt — Tracy Aplin at Festival of Quilts

Tracy Aplin’s colourful Party Rings patchwork quilt was one of the most joyful quilts at this year’s Festival of Quilts — a vibrant celebration of Liberty scraps, bold colour and playful circle designs inspired by the beloved British biscuit.

A Sweet Inspiration
Inspired by a block found in a vintage quilt, Tracy’s design journey began with an old motif that she lovingly redrew and transformed into a usable template – with a little help from a friend. The result? A vibrant, modern quilt full of Liberty fabric magic and playful colour.

Tracy named the quilt “Party Rings” because it looks just like the beloved British biscuits! The soft pinks, sunny yellows and that pop of turquoise beautifully mirror the nostalgic snack – even down to the wrapper colours.

“I knew I wanted pink and yellow in the quilt, then the turquoise just brought it all out. It looks just like the biscuit packaging!”

A Scrap-Lover’s Dream
This quilt is also a shining example of scrap-friendly quilting. Tracy used a wide array of Liberty scraps from her stash, showcasing how beautifully a mix of prints can come together when colour is used with confidence.

Tracy is known for making Liberty look completely unique, often using the iconic prints in ways that feel fresh, fun and full of character. This quilt is no exception – it bursts with colour and life.

“I like using what I already have.” Tracy says.

A Celebration of Colour
One of our favourite things about Tracy’s work is her bold and playful use of colour. Her choices are unexpected, joyful and show just how versatile Liberty fabrics can be. She combines traditional techniques with a modern palette, giving her quilts a style that’s entirely her own.
