Anne’s Quilt Block Project Planner — A Liberty Patchwork Design Station

Anne Commins from the Lewes Sewing Bees has made this brilliant patchwork quilt block project planner using Liberty exclusive fabrics in Strawberry Thief and Capel Mint. One side has wadding for arranging your quilt pieces — they stick in place so you can plan your design — while the other is a pressing mat for fusing and piecing. A front pocket holds a 6.5 inch square ruler, making it one of the handiest sewing patterns for any quilter.

On the front of the Quilt Block Project Planner there is a pocket which can house a 6.5″ x 6.5″ square ruler. You can also tidy away any spare pieces of your current project.

I asked Anne about the project:

Anne said “When I joined in with the Splendid Sampler sewalong there was a free pattern by Jane Davidson. Jane calls the pattern a Folding Block Station. For anyone wowed by the 1718 Coverlet at the Festival of Quilts and tempted to make some of the blocks this would be an excellent little project to kick-start your design process. None of the Lewes Sewing Bees could understand why I was so enthusiastic about the pattern. I literally had to say “Look!” and hold my Folding Block Station upside down. All the carefully arranged little pieces of fabric stuck firmly to the wadding and the Bees finally understood. Because the pressing mat side is covered with fabric none of the fabric transfers across when you close the block station up. You can come back a week later and everything will still be beautifully in place.”

This Quilt Block Project Planner is brilliant. On the right hand side there is wadding and when you place your charms or pre-cut quilt pieces they stick to the wadding. Move and change them around until you have the design you want. Amazing!
