We are so grateful to have had over 30 quilts generously donated to our Quilt SOS project this year. Each quilt was made with love and kindly donated by our amazing customers.
Last Thursday we hand-delivered the quilts to GARAS (Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers), but before parting with them, we decided to have a little photoshoot at the stunning Gloucester Cathedral. It was so festive and the perfect backdrop to show off your lovely quilts.
We also spotted this adorable Beatrix Potter ‘The Tailor of Gloucester’ display!
Upon arrival at GARAS, we were welcomed by Adele Owen, the director, and Linda, the Resettlement Team Leader. Linda sets up homes for the families that have been granted asylum and shared some lovely stories about how gratefully received the quilts are. She explained how the quilts arrived at just the right time, coinciding with the resettlement of 14 families from Afghanistan, along with numerous Syrian and Somalian families. The quilts are perfect for brightening up the rooms and providing comfort to families starting anew.
Alice says “It was so lovely to hear that people were asking about the quilts this year, eager to have one to call their own. It really does show how appreciated they are and the impact that these quilts can have. GARAS thoughtfully matches each quilt with their recipient too which adds such a special touch, and in the children’s rooms, toys are laid on their new quilts upon arrival, which must bring such joy during what can be a challenging time.”
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Quilt SOS. GARAS are always in need of these beautiful quilts so we will be accepting your donations at any point during the year. Click here to find out more about the project.
