Beautiful Betsy Dress

The lovely Tracy Aplin (or Sewing Tracy as she is also known) has made this Beautiful Betsy Dress.

Beautiful Betsy Dress

The pattern Tracy has used for this Beautiful Betsy Dress is called Blitz by Sew La Di Da Vintage.  It’s a 1940’s style inspired dress.  The original pattern has an open neck and a Peter Pan collar.  Tracy changed the neckline to a curved edge and lost the collar which means it is a much simpler make.

Tracy chose the new Alice Caroline Exclusive Betsy Pink Gold which looks really pretty and summery.  The gold in the fabric gives just a hint of shimmer in the summer sunshine.

The sleeves have a pleated box top to them which has a very 1940’s feel.  The dress has been lined in plain white tana lawn.  The lining helps the Liberty lawn to sit better when worn so there is no need for a petticoat.  Tracy said “The fabric was a delight to sew with as Liberty always in.  I love the new Betsy with gold in it.  As the fabric moves you can see it more glimmering in the light.”

I am always blown away by the talent of sewers.  Thank you Tracy for making such a gorgeous dress from one of the exclusive fabrics.  It’s lovely to see it being used for so many different things.  You can follow Tracy on Instagram – she is @sewingtracy
