Japanese Inspired Patchwork Bag | Liberty Fabrics & Bridgerton Collection

Sarah’s Bridgerton Bag

This beautiful Bridgerton bag is made from the new Liberty Fabrics & Bridgerton collection that incorporates lots of beautiful new prints. The inspiration for her project came immediately, sparked by the soft elegance and romantic detail of the Bridgerton Fabric.

She wanted to capture something that felt both practical and a special to use every day. Sarah said the use of the Bridgerton charm squares gave her the flexibility to work with all prints throughout the collection and therefore could mix and match her own way!

A few words from Sarah:

The lighter mornings and the recent appearance of the sun have made my thoughts turn towards Summer; long, hot days, picnics in the park, trips to the beach and holidays I’ve yet to book. Therefore, when the beautiful Bridgerton fabrics arrived in the studio in charm square form, I jumped at the chance to prepare.

I decided to make a Japanese Natsu bag, Natsu meaning summer. The pattern is one I already owned from Japan Crafts and is very straightforward. It involves sewing four layered rectangles of charm squares, 2 x 5, sandwiched together with wadding and a single piece of backing. These are then sewn together in a simple formation and bag handles are added. It combines some machine sewing with hand stitching which I found particularly relaxing in the evenings and good for mindfulness.

I am so pleased with the outcome. The bag is roomy with plenty of space for a picnic blanket or beach towel along with other necessities for a day enjoying the sunshine, I can’t wait for the opportunity to put it to good use.

Whether these fabrics are used together or individually, they offer so much inspiration, creating pieces that are both classic and beautiful.

This beautiful bag has been made using our very own Bridgerton charm squares which brings together a mix of elegance, charm and practicality all into one. These charm squares are the best way to explore the full collection, incorporating a bunch of different prints, working so well in projects such as patch work and english paper piecing.
