This post Dated 10th November
Some great news today as the charity Liberty quilts made for the Quilt SOS project are off to their new homes next week. The quilts made by you, our lovely customers, for our Quilt SOS project will be heading off to Vilnius in Lithuania on Monday. An extraordinary total of 83 Liberty fabric quilts have been made and donated by you which is completely amazing!
It’s been a mission getting to this point! The 2017 project has been on another scale altogether! We chose an SOS Children’s Village in Vilnius, Lithuania which meant that our target for this year was 83 quilts – almost double that of last year. With only just days to go until we fly out with the quilts to Lithuania, we have reached our target. You took on the challenge and responded magnificently when we recently put out a plea to help us get to the finish line.
At this point, I wanted to say a massive thank you to you all for all of your hard work, love and sewing skills. We have been simply astounded by the warm and giving nature of you all. We photographed the beautiful quilts yesterday and today and are completely blown away by the beauty in each individual quilt and the workmanship involved.
We will be travelling to Lithuania on Monday 13th November and will be personally handing the quilts to the children and young people that afternoon. Make sure you follow the story on our social media channels. We will be posting regular updates of where we are and what we are up to. We are really looking forward to hand delivering all of your beautiful quilts.
Here’s a wonderful stack of the quilts which are currently in the studio waiting to be packaged up ready to go onto the plane first thing on Monday.
One of our wonderful quilters Suzanne Campion has made 4 charity Liberty quilts for the project this year and she explains why she has been involved. “Liberty Tana Lawn is unique in its colour, intensity and touch, which makes it such a joy to work with, as well as inspirational when it comes to design. I always hope that the love of what I’m doing will become part of the quilts that these children will wrap around themselves at night. I’m so proud to be part of this project, bringing love, warmth and comfort to children who need it the most.” Suzanne’s wonderful quilts can be seen in the top and bottom left picture below.
The charity Liberty quilts project was such an amazing project to run last year so I was excited to bring it back for 2017. I have been astounded by the warm and giving nature of my customers. Seeing them stacked up in the studio, it really is a delight to see. I am really looking forward to taking the quilts out to Vilnius in Lithuania next week.
