On day 4 of our 12 Days of Handmade Christmas projects, we have these lovely 3D decorations, made using English Paper Piecing. This is a great project for using up scraps of fabrics you have leftover at the end of the year. We always have lots of scraps lying around and love finding new ways to use them!
We finished our decorations off with tassels and jewels for the finishing touch. The jewels will also catch the light on the tree and give that extra bit of sparkle!
You will need:
Fabric scraps
Triangle EPP papers (8 triangles per ornament)
Thread
Beads & tassels (optional!)

- Prepare your EPP shapes by arranging the paper pieces on your fabric and cutting around each one, leaving a 1/4” seam allowance all the way round.
2. Baste the shapes – we like to use a Sewline glue pen, doing a line of glue on the paper edge and folding the fabric over.
3. Arrange your basted shapes into a net of a pyramid shape, as shown. Starting from the top left shape, place shapes right sides together and sew along the joining edge using a slip stitch.

4. Continue until the entire net is sewn together. Then begin forming your pyramid by sewing the remaining adjoining edges. Add the ribbon loop at the top and tassel at the bottom. Feel free to include beads or other embellishments at this stage too.
5. And you’re done – enjoy your new decoration!
