Laura’s Liberty Dress

Laura has made this super pretty Liberty Dress to wear at Claire’s wedding (which was last weekend and lots of fun!). She made it using the ‘Sew Over it Betty Dress‘ Pattern and using Liberty ‘Chive’ fabric.  Laura looked gorgeous in the dress as did the beautiful bride!  Scroll down to see some lovely pictures of the wedding.

Laura said about the sewing project “Sew Over It’s Betty Dress pattern was incredibly fun and fast to sew together. The instructions were clear and the construction simple, overall. The dress has a fitted bodice, an invisible zip along the centre back seam, a dipped V-neckline feature at the back, and a full circle skirt which makes it extra fun to twirl in.”

“I was drawn to this dress pattern because it looked like a great basic and classic shape. I don’t think anyone can go wrong by adding this dress to their wardrobe.  This pattern creates an hourglass silhouette which would flatter any body shape thanks to the nipped waist and wide, flaring skirt. After much deliberating I decided to make the dress using the beautiful Liberty Tana Lawn Chive S which is a lovely small floral print in a soft, dusty blue. Liberty Tana Lawn was the perfect fabric to use as it makes the dress light, airy, and perfect for the warmer weather.”

“The pattern on its own without any amendments would have been completely fine but I couldn’t help making a few changes to make the resulting dress 100% me. I changed the front bodice darts into gathers along the waistline only, inserted pockets into the skirt’s side seams (a dress with 2 decently sized pockets- always the dream!!) and added butterfly sleeves.  The soft, fluttery sleeves and the dusty blue floral fabric choice lends the dress a slightly frumpy old school Laura Ashley feeling. Hopefully doesn’t sound like a bad thing because I absolutely live for this look- I love it!”

“Last weekend our lovely colleague, Claire, had a beautiful country wedding at the local village hall complete with bunting, wildflowers and candles in rustic glass jars. I loved wearing this dress to Claire’s wedding, I think it fitted right in with her sweet country summertime aesthetic. Just like in these photos, I really enjoyed kicking my wedges off and walking through the field home after a lovely evening of good friends and dancing!”

Claire’s wedding was fabulous fun!  All of us at Alice Caroline would like to wish Claire and Byron a wonderful life together.  I’m sure that their lives will be filled with fun, laughter and many many good times.  Claire is such a fun person to work with and we all had a fantastic time on her big day.  There were so many pretty Liberty details that I couldn’t help sharing a few with you here.  A beautiful hanging fabric garland.

The delicious cake with some beautiful Mauvey bunting behind.  Mauvey is Claire’s favourite Liberty fabric so it was only right that to made an appearance on the big day.

The very happy and handsome/beautiful couple.  Congratulations Claire & Byron!

A few weeks ago, we held a special afternoon tea for Claire to celebrate her marriage to Byron.  In true Alice Caroline style, we all made yummy afternoon tea canapés, sandwiches and cakes to make a wonderfully celebratory afternoon.
